Casino roulette basics

Roulette is a gambling game invented in France. The same person who is known so much in the history of computers, Blaise Pascal, is responsible for this exciting game of chance. The earliest game was a slightly different variation but basic rules at that time stand until today. Today, casino roulette is one of the most popularly played casino games alongside poker, blackjack, and of course, the notorious one-armed bandits, the slot machines.

To play casino roulette, one of the basic elements needed is a wheel that is affixed with 37 (for European) or 38 (for American) pockets with numbers from 0 to 36. The American version has an added double zero to it (00). A small ball is also needed; it is often made of ivory or hard plastic. The last element needed is the betting area, a sort of chart of arranged numbers that correspond to the numbers on the wheel. To place a bet, casino chips are positioned on the betting area depending on the type of bet made. After bets are placed, the croupier spins the wheel in one direction and throws in the tiny ball in the opposite direction and everyone waits for the spinning to stop to see on which number the ball finally settles on.

Casino roulette generally centers on betting. People bet on which number the tiny ivory ball will finally settle on after the wheel stops spinning. There are many different types of bets that are indicated by the way casino chips are positioned on the betting area. Some of the most commonly made bets include the trio, split, four numbers, column, dozen, line, red or black, odd or even, etc. Payoffs will also greatly depend on the type of bet made.

As casino roulette is a game of pure chance, it is impossible to come up with a standard set of strategies unlike with blackjack or poker. Of course, advantages are always tipped toward the casino’s side, but to up your chances at least for just a bit, play with a single-zero wheel as much as possible.
